This cover art is a tweaked detail ofGabrielle d'Estrées et une de ses soeurs (Gabrielle d'Estrées and one of her sisters). Painted in 1595 by an anonymous artist, it is a portrait of the beloved mistress of King Henry IV of France and her sister in the bath. Gabrielle is holding the king's coronation ring. This beautiful, mysterious, and wryly twisted little painting is the perfect cover for a Louisa Burton book!
